Why do tourists choose Oman? Firstly, it boasts incredibly picturesque natural beauty: mountains, waterfalls, savannas, tropical landscapes, and even fjords. Secondly, Oman has preserved its Arab identity and high quality of life, remaining one of the few Middle Eastern countries untouched by modern civilization. Thirdly, it offers a rich excursion program: Oman’s history is so rich in events that it rivals many global cultural centers.
Entertainment and Attractions in Oman
Oman is famous for its fortified forts, of which there are over 500. Two of them, Jalali Fort and Mirani Fort, can be visited in Muscat. Bahla Fort, located at the foot of the Akhdar Mountains, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its impressive fortifications, which stretch over 11 kilometers. Oman’s mountainous regions are crisscrossed with dry riverbeds called wadis, often crossed by roads. The Wahiba Sands boast some of the highest dunes on the planet.
Oman has many national parks where rare animals can be found, including the Arabian oryx, the recently endangered Arabian tahr, the Arabian wolf, the leopard, the striped hyena, and the sooty falcon. Giant sea turtles breed in the wild on Masirah Island.
Omani Cuisine and Restaurants
Omani cuisine is characterized by moderate spice and generous portions. Fish and seafood dishes seasoned with local spices, especially shark, are especially noteworthy. Halva and dates are popular sweets. A traditional drink in Oman is strong coffee with cardamom, ground pits, or a drop of rosewater. It is customary to finish a meal by using a toothpick or chewing caraway seeds to freshen the mouth.
