Few tourists know more about Ljubljana than that it’s the capital of Slovenia. However, this small and charming city is worth a visit—it leaves a lasting impression. Travelers come here to see the famous Grad Castle, stroll the ancient streets of the Old Town, immerse themselves in the local culture, or simply enjoy the tranquility and greenery of this cozy corner of Eastern Europe.
Entertainment and Attractions
Despite its small size, Ljubljana is rich in interesting places. Tourists typically simply stroll around the city, soaking in its atmosphere and taking in the sights as they go.
First, climb to the medieval Grad Castle, which towers over the city and is its symbol. At the foot of Castle Hill lies the Old Town, with its narrow, cozy streets and impressive architecture. Stari Trg Square, where buildings from various eras can be seen, is especially noteworthy. A fascinating architectural landmark is the Triple Bridge, which resembles a fan: it begins at one point and diverges into three different ends on the opposite bank. Another iconic bridge is the Dragon Bridge, adorned with four majestic dragon statues. These mythical creatures are considered the symbol of Ljubljana and are found throughout the city. According to legend, Jason, returning from stealing the Golden Fleece, encountered a monster here and defeated it. The city that later became Ljubljana was founded on this site.
A favorite place for walks among both locals and tourists is Tivoli Park, the largest green space in the city. It is well-maintained and very picturesque. Families with children can visit the zoo, which resembles a nature reserve, where the animals are provided with conditions as close to natural as possible.
Ljubljana also has numerous museums and galleries. Of particular interest are the National Museum of Slovenia and the Slovenian Ethnographic Museum, which showcase the country’s cultural and historical heritage. Contemporary art lovers often visit the Metelkova Museum, which displays works by Eastern European artists.
