A large number of American films have been filmed in Seattle (including The Ring, Sleepless in Seattle, and one part of Austin Powers and Twilight), and the headquarters of such giants as Boeing and Amazon are located here.
It is also the birthplace of Nirvana and the grunge style, the first Starbucks in the world opened, and the first American team to win the Stanley Cup was founded. Local seafood is also considered to be among the best in the entire United States, and there are giant outlets and beautiful waterfalls near the city.
Entertainment and Attractions
The main attraction of Seattle is the Space Needle, built in 1962 for the World Exhibition. The slender structure, almost 200 meters high, is crowned with a flying saucer. Local statues are also popular with tourists: the Fremont Troll located under the bridge and the bronze Lenin, which was brought from Czechoslovakia by US resident Lewis Carpenter. The Lenin statue is often decorated during festivals, for example: for Christmas or for the LGBT parade.
Seattle is known for its lush parks. The Kubota Garden is unusual – a real island of Japan in America. City residents love to walk among its dwarf trees, curved bridges and ponds.
The city has a large number of churches and cathedrals: St. James is considered the most beautiful, parishioners call St. Spyridon’s Cathedral “a truly American Orthodox church”, and St. Mark’s Church has the largest organ instrument.
A very controversial, but unusual attraction is the Chewing Gum Wall, covered with thousands of pieces of chewed gum of all colors. Tourists adore it for colorful selfies and the opportunity to “leave your mark”.
