Camogli is a beautiful town overlooking the Gulf of Paradiso in the eastern part of the Ligurian Riviera.
Camogli is a typical seaside village with brightly colored houses that captivate visitors at first sight. This stunning location, surrounded by beautiful nature, has attracted tourists for years.
What to see
A characteristic feature of Liguria is its trompe l’oeil facades, where paintings create the illusion of architectural details and decorations.
Here you’ll find a large number of churches, beginning with the Minor Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, overlooking the harbor. We also recommend visiting the Church of Our Lady of the Boschetto, built on the site where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared in 1500.
Among the monuments of civil architecture, the small Dragonara Castle, built in the Middle Ages to protect the city, stands out.
Among the defensive fortifications, the Punta Chiappa Battery, built in the 1930s and 1940s, stands out.
Things to do
Be sure to visit the Maritime Museum in Camogli, which displays exhibits related to the sea. One section is entirely dedicated to ship models.
For hikers, one of the many scenic trails connecting Camogli with the Ruta district is ideal.
For diving enthusiasts, there are numerous grottoes, such as the Grotta dei Gamberi on Punta Chiappa, where numerous small shrimp cover its walls. You can also see small lobsters, crabs, and corals here.
Along the coast and around the harbor, you’ll find snack bars, restaurants, and benches where you can enjoy a relaxing time.
Don’t miss
Be sure to visit the Bay of San Fruttuoso. It can be reached via a steep trail or by boat. Here lies a beautiful town that grew up around the Abbey of San Fruttuoso di Capodimonte.
Diving enthusiasts have the opportunity to dive near the famous statue of “Christ of the Abyss” by Guido Galletti, placed on the bottom of the Gulf of San Fruttuoso in 1954.
If you’re in the area in May, be sure to visit the famous fish fair, where fish is cooked in front of everyone on the legendary giant frying pan.
