Holidays in Nesebar

Nesebar is a beautiful town and one of the oldest on the Black Sea coast. It is located on the Nesebar Peninsula, 3 km from the Sunny Beach resort.

Nesebar was founded in the 2nd century by the Thracians and named Melsa. It later became a Greek colony and was named Mesambria. In 680, the town came under Roman rule. During the reign of King Alexander I, Nesebar reached its peak of prosperity, becoming one of the most important centers of Bulgaria.

The state donated vast sums to build more than 40 churches and monasteries. In 1983, the town was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Nesebar boasts a rich cultural heritage of the Bulgarian people.

The quaint white cliffs, gentle sea, unique golden sand, and wide sandy beaches bordered on the landward side by natural sand dunes create a fairytale atmosphere and unforgettable scenery.

Nesebar is divided into two parts: the old town and the new town. The old town is a museum-city that remains Bulgaria’s leading cultural and spiritual center to this day. The old part of the town is located on a beautiful island connected to the mainland by a narrow 400-meter isthmus. There are no hotels here; accommodations are available only in apartments and private homes.

The old part alone contains more than 40 churches and monasteries dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries. Also preserved are the ruins of fortress walls, city gates, the central town square, and several residential buildings. The boundary between the old and new towns is a Byzantine fortress wall with an ancient gate dating back to the 3rd century.

The new town is a typical Bulgarian resort: beaches, swimming pools, hotels, and a warm sea. New neighborhoods are currently being rapidly built right on the coast. In New Nesebar, you can relax not only in private guesthouses and apartments, but also in hotels.

In both parts, you will find a large number of cafes and restaurants, bars, and discos.
