Biarritz – France’s Royal Resort

Biarritz is one of the most popular resorts on the Atlantic coast, attracting tourists with its sea air, mild climate, and the extraordinary beauty of the Atlantic Pyrenees.

Biarritz Beaches
Sandy beaches stretch from two rocky outcrops—Cape Saint-Martin and the Atalay Plateau—to the northern beach of Chambre d’Amour. Biarritz is ideal for active recreation enthusiasts, with golf and windsurfing being the most popular. International windsurfing competitions are held here annually, attracting professionals and amateurs from around the world.

The French Atlantic coast is known for its wide sandy beaches. However, tides are a problem: in some areas, the sea recedes up to a kilometer from the shore.

Biarritz Attractions
At the Biarritz History Museum, you can learn about the city’s transformation from a fishing village to a modern resort. The maritime museum features 24 aquariums displaying the underwater flora and fauna of the Bay of Biscay and an exhibit dedicated to fishing. A statue of Our Lady stands on the Vierge cliff next to the museum.

This region of France boasts an interesting landmark around every corner. For example, the city of Bayonne—the “capital of the Basque Country”—is home to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, the Bran vineyard, Etchotz Castle, and the Oxozelaya cave (Wolf’s Paradise). The medieval town of Sauveterre-de-Béarn preserves a bridge, castle, towers, a line of fortifications, and individual fortifications. Sally-de-Béarn is a spa resort and medieval town with numerous ancient monuments.
