Shopping in Athens

Athens is a large, modern metropolis. Here, vintage antiques coexist harmoniously alongside the most fashionable designers and affordable brands of clothing, shoes, and accessories.

For clothes and shoes from well-known but relatively inexpensive brands, head to Ermou Street—the largest shopping street in the Greek capital. From the middle to the end, you’ll find Bennetton, Zara, Morgan, Marks & Spencer, and many others. At the beginning of the street, you’ll find more expensive luxury brands. The most expensive and fashionable shopping areas are Glyfada, Kolonaki, and Kifisia.

You’ll find affordable but high-quality items at the Factory Outlet shopping center. However, it’s located quite far from central Athens. In the center, the Attica shopping center stands out. Prices are higher here, but you don’t have to go anywhere.

You can shop at quite reasonable prices on Ermou Street. Patission (clothing, shoes, and accessories), Plaka (souvenirs, antiques, and jewelry), and Monastiraki Street (traditional tools, accessories, handmade clothing, and shoes). A large flea market takes place on Monastiraki Street every Sunday. Among the piles of useless trinkets, you can find interesting and original items, including relatively inexpensive Greek souvenirs such as bed linens, carpets, ceramics, replicas of museum pieces, and ancient Greek busts.

For budget shoppers, the second half of summer is a good time to vacation. Athens hosts sales from mid-July to the end of August, with prices dropping by 50-80%. However, even during the sales, the famous Greek furs are quite expensive here; for fur coats, it’s better to go elsewhere in the country.
Also, be sure to check out Athinas Street. Here you can buy delicious Greek souvenirs – olives and olive oil, feta cheese, honey, Rakia and Metaxa.
