Nida – a resort town on the Curonian Spit

Nida is located in Lithuania in the middle of the Curonian Spit. It’s a beautiful and sunny town, but vacationing here is quite expensive due to the small number of hotels. However, the clean sidewalks, smooth roads, neat wooden houses, and resinous pine air mixed with sea air are worth every euro.

Nida Dunes and Beaches
The Curonian Spit National Park is Nida’s main attraction. It boasts the highest dunes in Europe (up to 70 meters).

Nida’s pristine sandy beaches, awarded the Blue Flag, are strikingly different from those in the Curonian Spit. It’s not crowded: the water in the Baltic Sea is cold even in summer, and the strong wind blowing sand grains can be unpleasant. Also note that there are no sun loungers, umbrellas, showers, or other beach amenities in the area. However, these facilities are available in neighboring villages on the spit, such as Juodkrante.

Sights and Infrastructure
Nida boasts a unique architecture in the original Curonian style. The dark red houses are decorated with white window frames, and the gables are adorned with carved elements.

The History Museum is the most popular in the city. It features Neolithic finds that tell us about the lives of people of that period.

Boats with fishing nets and crow-catching devices are also on display. Until the early 20th century, the traditional Kursenieki trade was salting the meat of these birds.

Be sure to check out the Amber Museum, housed in an old fisherman’s house. The museum exhibits a large number of stones, including a giant boulder weighing 3,820 grams.

Parnidis Dune is another place worth visiting. At its summit, there’s an observation deck from which you can watch the sunrises and sunsets.
