Zakopane is ideal for family vacations, sports activities, and educational tourism. Entertainment and Attractions
The distinctive Zakopane style of wooden architecture is represented in the city. Its finest examples can be seen on the city streets: the Villa Koliba, built in 1893, the “House under the Fir Trees,” which houses the Tatra Region Museum, and the Dr. Havranka Sanatorium.
In the village of Chochołów, you can continue your exploration of Polish wooden architecture. A complex of highlander residential buildings was built here in the 19th century and is still inhabited today. Near Zakopane, a wooden church from the 16th century has been preserved. Located in Dębno Podhalańskie, its façade is adorned with unusual carvings. Also near Zakopane is an ancient knight’s castle, built as a defensive fort on the former border with Hungary – Dunajec Castle in Niedzica.
Tourists will be equally captivated by the natural wonders. A trip to the Kościeliska Valley in the Tatra Mountains will allow you to see the Morskie Oko mountain lake and caves.
Zakopane also boasts interesting museums. In addition to the already mentioned Villa Koliba and the “House Under the Fir Trees,” there are also the Korneli Makuszyński Museum, a renowned Polish children’s writer, and the Museum of Carriages and Locomotives. Tickets to all museums cost 7 PLN for regular visitors and 5.50 PLN for concessions. Zakopane also boasts the Witkiewicz Drama Theatre.
