The “Jura and Three Lakes” region is famous for the beauty of its landscapes, carefully protected and untouched nature, rich architectural heritage and history.
A truly heavenly picture: blue skies, bright green mountains of Neshatel and the mirror surface of lakes. Be sure to visit the Cres de Vans and the Val de Traverte bitumen mines, as well as the small towns of La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle – which in June 2009 were awarded the status of UNESCO World Heritage Sites due to their long history of watchmaking.
The Bernese Jura region is a place of beautiful nature and rich traditions. Vast spaces open up to tourists – flower meadows and mountains, ideal for hiking. From the top of Chasseral, the highest point of the region (1607 m), an incredible view of all the surrounding lakes and valleys opens. The Canton of Jura is located at an altitude of 1,000 m above sea level – here you can often meet people riding horses – in this place people live in complete harmony with nature.
When you visit the Clos du Dub reserve or the high plain of Franche-Montagne, you will encounter true wonders of nature. It is best to describe the Three Lakes region using such phrases as “picturesque nature”, “many vineyards”, “vegetable plantations”, “picturesque villages”, “modern cities”.
A boat ride on the Aare River or on Lakes Mürten, Biel and Nechatel will be a truly unforgettable experience. The classic excursion, offering the “Three Lakes Tour”, should become a mandatory part of getting to know this region.
Cyclists especially love the Three Lakes region. Two national cycling routes pass through it, as well as a large number of routes of varying difficulty through interesting landscapes. Those that pass through vegetable plantations are ideal for a family vacation.
Local cities are very diverse. First of all, visit Solothurn, the most beautiful “baroque” city in Switzerland, followed by Mürten with its historic city wall, followed by medieval Estavare-le-Lac, Nechatel at the foot of the vineyards and, of course, Biel, which was famous in its time.
