The small town of Cotswold is definitely worth a visit for those who love the laid-back rural life and relaxing in the midst of rich nature. The town is located in Gloucestershire, on a hilly elevation, so this area is also often called the Cotswold hills.
Upon arrival in the city, you will immediately see countless gardens and parks, which can be called works of landscape art. This is the largest area out of 36 areas of natural beauty in England – the so-called AONB, because of this, tourists often come here to admire nature. Various British celebrities are also often here. In the Cotswolds, everything really looks gorgeous: a well-maintained style of houses, rich nature, cozy hotels and many excellent places to visit.
The pace of life here is suitable for slow walks, for enjoying all the beauty of greenery and flowers. During the walk, you can also find many mini hotels and small shops with small souvenirs and original antiques. It seems that modernity has not touched this place – buildings in a uniform style made of limestone in combination with dense greenery seem to have remained in the past. Initially, everything in the house had a honey shade, but now they gradually become grayish, oxidizing under the influence of fresh air and sunlight.
Special attention should be paid to the “Wildlife Park” of the Cotswolds, where you must sign up for an excursion. The park is considered one of the leaders in the world in terms of the number of plants and animals that can be seen here. It is difficult to go around the entire territory at once, so at the entrance, all visitors are given a map where you can immediately mark the most interesting areas.
Near the park is also a popular Cotswold farm for breeding rare breeds of cattle – for example, a black pig with long ears or a sheep bull. Back in the 17th century, the Cotswolds became a full-fledged center for the wool trade. Until now, animal breeding remains a prestigious occupation here.
Cotswold is the real “heart of England”. A large number of ancient traditions are read here until our time, which makes it possible to feel the full appearance of antiquity and conservatism. But at the same time, there are many opportunities for modern tourism: from bicycle paths and horse trails to various churches and palaces with castles.
