Skiathos is an emerald island, like something out of a fairy tale. The island boasts lush vegetation: pine forests and olive groves cover almost the entire island, reaching right down to the water.
The island is the westernmost of the Sporades archipelago and is located in the northwestern Aegean Sea. Skiathos’s surface is mostly mountainous.
The legendary musical “Mamma Mia” was filmed on Skiathos.
Skiathos is one of the most popular tourist destinations. Here you’ll find green landscapes, picturesque villages, beautiful beaches with azure waters, friendly people, excellent infrastructure, and an exciting nightlife. Although Skiathos covers only 61 square kilometers, many tourists return to the island every year simply because it boasts the best beaches, a wide selection of bars, restaurants, and tavernas, and because it’s a beautiful and green island.
During the summer, the island hosts a variety of cultural events. The most popular is the “Oniro Sto Kima,” which runs throughout July and August. The feast day of St. Florus on Tsougriá is celebrated on August 18th.
Skiathos is a paradise for hikers and cyclists. There are 25 hiking trails on the island, covering a total of 197 km and lasting from 1 to 6 hours. You’ll experience fantastic scenery along the way. The best times to hike are April-May and September-October. Skiathos hosts International Hiking Days on the first Saturday and Sunday of October, and everyone is welcome to participate.
