Blackpool, in Lancashire, is considered one of the most popular seaside resorts in Britain. It was here that electricity was first installed, and the first English electric tram was also built.
Blackpool Attractions and Entertainment
The town offers a wide range of recreational options: the family-friendly Sandcastle Waterpark, the leafy Stanley Park, a go-kart center, George Bancroft Gardens with its 20-meter-high climbing wall, a winter garden, Madame Tussauds, a zoo, a marine aquarium, and the Solarium, which showcases solar energy.
The seafront promenade is unmissable. The nearly twenty-kilometer-long promenade is lined with numerous small hotels, bars, and cafes. In the morning, you can stroll along the sandy strip exposed by the low tide by the water.
Another interesting attraction in Blackpool is the Eiffel Tower. While the tower here is quite different from the one in Paris, there are some similarities. An elevator takes you to the top of the tower, where there are three observation decks, two of which are outdoors.
The Blackpool Tramway is a special landmark in the city. Its tracks run along the city’s main street. Besides its unique status as the only electric tram in the country, some of the trains also boast unique designs. They are styled like a ship with two decks and glow with multicolored lights.
When in Blackpool, be sure to pay attention to what’s going on here. Every year, the city hosts a variety of interesting events, including the dance festival, the largest and most famous in the world. The festival program includes partner dancing, solo performances, team events, and freestyle dancing.
The Blackpool Opera House, opened in 1939, seats up to 3,000 people, making it one of the largest in the UK. The theater hosts numerous musical events and performances throughout the year.
