Attractions in Stratford-upon-Avon
Stratford has many connections with Shakespeare. You can start at the house where he was born. Continue to Anne Hathaway’s cottage, located 1 mile west of Stratford, or to his mother’s farm, where life in the 1570s has been recreated.
Visit New Place, the house where William Shakespeare spent his final days, until his death in 1616. And of course, stop by Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare was baptized and buried.
In addition to Shakespeare-related sites in Stratford, you can visit the Stratford Butterfly Farm, where a tropical habitat has been created for butterflies in enormous greenhouses. Besides butterflies, the farm also features a fish pond, birds, and an insect and spider exhibit.
On the outskirts of town, the Stratford Armouries museum houses personal arms and armour from the collection of James Wigington. It houses one of the world’s largest private collections open to the public.
Also of interest are the local theatres: the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, the Swan Theatre, and the Waterside Theatre.
Shopping
