Trenčín Attractions

Trenčín is an important tourist and textile center in Slovakia, and the local hockey team, Dukla Trenčín, has won the national championship for several years in a row, becoming the national champion four times.

If you want to spend a few days in Trenčín, you won’t get bored, even if you’re the most tireless and inquisitive tourist. Here you can enjoy the cozy nightlife, visit a couple of miniature museums, including a magnificent collection of modern Czech and Slovak art, and explore the surrounding area, such as the spa resort of Trenčianske Teplice or see traces of Roman legionaries in Laugarizio, where they were stationed in 179 BC.

At the castle, you can see the “Wall of Love,” a rotunda (9th-10th centuries), Barbara’s Palace, and Matthias’ Tower (11th century). The castle also houses a museum, open from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM from May to October and from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM from November to April. During the summer, it hosts numerous concerts, events, and historical reenactments.

In the Old Town, climb the Town Tower, stroll up the 16th-century wooden staircase, and visit the Bazovský Museum, which boasts an excellent collection of contemporary Czech and Slovak art, including works by local artist Miloš Bazovský.

Other interesting sights include St. Mary’s Church, St. Michael’s Chapel, the Piarist Monastery, the Lutheran Church, the synagogue, the Town Hall, the Executioner’s House, and Peace Square.
