Sozopol Attractions and Entertainment
Sozopol is a resort town in Bulgaria, located on a small rocky peninsula on the Black Sea coast. The town has a rich history, having been founded by Greek colonists as early as the 6th century BC. Since then, the town has changed hands and residents several times, transforming and expanding. Today, Sozopol can be divided into two parts: the old part, located on the peninsula, and the new part. The site of the new part was once home to numerous mills, but only one remains.
The most picturesque and interesting part is the old part, which is a Bulgarian architectural reserve under the auspices of UNESCO. Here you can find numerous churches built during the Bulgarian National Revival, the remains of fortress walls, ancient houses, and numerous traditional restaurants. One of the largest churches in Sozopol is the Church of St. George, built in 1828 on the site of a Christian basilica. The church impresses with its size and interior decoration, as well as its unique marble altar, which was inherited from an ancient temple built in 330 on the ruins of a Thracian sanctuary.
Sozopol attracts many tourists not only with its rich history but also with its beautiful green park, which divides the town into two parts. The park is adorned with churches and greenery, creating a unique atmosphere and beckoning with its beauty. Sozopol is also known for its sandy beaches and romantic harbor.
