Canberra, the capital of Australia

If not for the competition between the two largest cities on the continent, Sydney and Melbourne, Canberra might not exist at all. It was this conflict between the two major cities for the right to call themselves the capital that led to the creation of Canberra.

Parliament House in Canberra is the seat of the Australian government.

Throughout history, the building has been rebuilt and modernized several times. It is enormous, with a tall mast on its roof. Architects had to remove part of a hill to build Parliament House, but after the project was completed, the land was returned to its original location, creating a beautiful flower garden that adorns the city with its fragrance and beauty year-round, captivating both tourists and locals.

Canberra boasts numerous monuments and memorials. The most famous of these is the Australian War Memorial, erected in honor of the wars in which Australian soldiers took part. The memorial includes a sculpture garden dedicated to various military units. The National Gallery of Australia is also one of Canberra’s top attractions. It is the continent’s premier art gallery. The paintings on display reflect the free-spirited nature of the Australian people.

Not far from the city’s central business district is Black Mountain, a hill on which construction is prohibited and part of Canberra’s National Parks. A telecommunications tower, reaching 195 meters in height, stands at the top of the hill.
