Skiing Slovakia

Mountains make up a significant part of Slovakia’s landscape, including the Low Tatras, the High Tatras, and the Carpathian Arc. Snow covers Slovakia’s mountainous regions from December to April, making the ski season in this country very long.

Slovakia’s top ski resort is Jasná, located in the Low Tatras, one of the most environmentally friendly regions in Europe. Jasná offers everything skiers need: numerous trails of varying difficulty, modern lifts, ski equipment rentals, cozy hotels, restaurants, and spas. In addition to these comfortable amenities, the Low Tatras impress with stunning natural scenery and clean air. The resort is located near Poprad-Tatry Airport, which serves a limited number of flights and has its own fleet of rescue and medical helicopters.

The neighboring High Tatras offer resorts that are particularly suitable for beginner skiers. The Štrbské Pleso resort, located here, is considered one of the best ski resorts in the High Tatras. It offers a variety of lifts, well-groomed slopes for both beginners and experts, ski jumping opportunities, spectator stands, and floodlit slopes for night skiing.

Transportation in the Low and High Tatras is well-developed, with buses and trains running between the various resorts. This allows skiers to explore the slopes of neighboring areas.

Besides skiing, tourists can also enjoy local restaurants serving traditional Slovak cuisine, as well as excursions to nearby castles, of which Slovakia is home to many and which are particularly picturesque in winter.
