Bad Kissingen, a spa town in Germany

Bad Kissingen is a small Bavarian spa town once visited by Otto von Bismarck and Austrian and German monarchs. Because of the royals’ love for the spa, the town was called the royal health resort of Europe. Mineral springs were discovered on the site of the town as early as the 9th century, making it the oldest spa resort in Germany.

Sights of Bad Kissingen
Bad Kissingen attracts attention with its large number of ancient buildings, including churches. Since the resort attracted visitors from all over Europe, churches were also built in a variety of styles—so that everyone had a place to pray. The town boasts Lutheran, Catholic, and Orthodox churches, and there was also an Anglican church and a synagogue. Architectural styles also vary: Baroque, Gothic, Classical, and Romanesque.

Bad Kissingen is immersed in greenery, with parks and a palm garden offering a relaxing escape from city life. The resort’s infrastructure is well-developed, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay. In addition to numerous cafes and shops, there are tennis courts and golf courses, and bicycle rentals are available. Horseback riding, fishing, and hang-gliding are also available.
The town boasts several museums: the Bismarck Museum in the Upper Saltworks, and the Cardinal Dopfner Museum in the Hausen district.

Health Treatment in Bad Kissingen
The mineral waters from the local springs are the resort’s main therapeutic factor. There are five springs, each with a different composition and, consequently, healing properties, offering the opportunity to improve health for a wide range of conditions. The Rákóczi and Pandur springs are rich in iron, carbon dioxide, and table salt, which are beneficial for the digestive system.

The water at the Macbrunnen Spring is used to treat respiratory ailments: it contains a large amount of minerals, especially calcium, which helps thin mucus. The water at the Luitpoldsprudel Spring, with its very high iron content, is used to treat anemia and promote overall recovery. For chronic constipation, the sulfate-rich water from the Bitterwasser Spring is prescribed.
