Brno is beautiful year-round, but spring is especially magical: green gardens, castles, and the cozy smoke from small breweries visible through the young foliage.
Brno is the second-largest city in the Czech Republic after Prague, yet locals are convinced that Brno is the true capital of the country and refuse to listen to any counterarguments. It is from here that the Czech royal dynasty of the Přemyslids originated. Almost all tourists to the Czech Republic head to Prague, while other cities are unfairly overlooked. Because of this, you can explore all the beauties of Brno in a relaxed atmosphere, without encountering crowds of tourists.
Shopping and Stores
For lovers of glitz and the high life, Galerie Vankovka is perfect with its luxurious showrooms, vibrant display windows, famous brands, and first-class service. Souvenir seekers should head to Olympia to explore the enigmatic handicrafts of Brno. And foodies should head to Billa, Interspar, and Paneria, where they source the finest organic produce from the outskirts of Brno—fresh meat, fish, crusty bread, and local wines.
Brno Attractions and Attractions
The name “Brno” comes from the ancient Czech word “brne,” meaning “armor.” This stems from the fact that Brno was surrounded by a large fortress built to defend Moravia. As early as the fifth century, a developed civilization existed here, leaving behind numerous “traces”: the Pantheon, Špilberg Hill, St. John’s Church, and the Augustinian Monastery. Near the city is the picturesque Slavkov Castle, better known as Austerlitz. It was also here that the famous bloody battle known as the “Battle of the Three Emperors” took place. Brno is home to several popular art galleries: the Brno Cultural Center, Moravian, G99 Gallery, Cabinet, and U Dobrho Shepherd (At the Good Shepherd).
From June to September, Brno’s city center hosts a cultural summer festival, including theatrical festivals, productions, and concerts of various genres.
On the outskirts of Brno, there is a racetrack that hosts annual FIA GT, MotoGP, WTCC, and Formula 2 races.
