Bükfürdő Thermal Spa

Slightly west of Budapest, at the foot of the Alps, lies Hungary’s premier thermal spa – Bükfürdő, or Bük for short.

The spa is very popular with European tourists, especially Austrians, due to its proximity to the Austrian border, just 15 km away. Bük welcomes over 1 million tourists from all over the world each year – more than any other resort in Hungary. The main reasons for this are the pristine air at the foot of the mountains, the unique composition of the thermal waters, and the city’s excellent infrastructure.

What illnesses are treated at the spa?
Unlike other thermal spas in Hungary, Bük originated around springs discovered in 1957. The unique composition of the water, discovered at a depth of approximately 1 km, allowed the creation of a bathhouse for the treatment of gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, gynecological, and musculoskeletal conditions.

The unique composition of the water includes high levels of fluoride, iodine, and iron, which also has an invigorating effect. The bathhouse is located in a separate complex, 2 km from Bük. The complex boasts 10 pools and baths, as well as children’s pools.

What to visit near Bük
After your water and therapeutic treatments, be sure to visit the medieval town of Kőszög, which has retained its appearance since the 13th century. Notable landmarks include Jurišič Square and the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The town museums, where you can learn about the history of the town and its fortress, are also of interest. There are also three settlements near Bük: Csák, Bosók, and Velém. These are small but distinctive towns. Csák has several wine cellars where you’ll find excellent homemade Hungarian wine.
