Cairns Attractions and Activities
When people arrive in Cairns, most immediately head to explore the magnificent beauty of the Great Barrier Reef, overlooking the city’s other equally fascinating attractions.

The Cairns Esplanade is a vast amusement park that includes an artificial lagoon, botanical gardens, and parks. There, you can play volleyball, rollerblade, enjoy a barbecue, exercise, shop for souvenirs at the Saturday market, and listen to live music.

Walsh Pyramid is the world’s tallest freestanding hill at 922 meters. Every year, it hosts the national Great Pyramid Race and a farmers’ market. The Daintree Rainforest is a true “living museum,” dating back over 135 million years! It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered one of the most unique and breathtaking places in the world. Daintree National Park, which encompasses a vast tropical landscape, offers numerous routes for independent exploration or guided tours. Also worth a ride is the 7.5-kilometer Skyway, a cable car that runs above the rainforest.

The Atherton Tablelands west of Cairns offer incredible views of savannahs, pristine lakes, and amazing birdlife. This area is also renowned for being home to over 80% of Australia’s coffee plantations. The best view of the valley can be obtained from the lookout on Halloran Hill. A car is the most convenient way to explore the plateau, but private tours are also available.
