What do you associate with Spain? Of course, the first things that come to mind are the sea, Barcelona, and the fashionable boutiques of Madrid. But that’s not all this beautiful country has to offer. Take Els Ports Natural Park, for example, which attracts many tourists with its colorful landscapes and extreme sports. Where is it located, and why is this place sometimes more interesting than the beauty of the sea?
Els Ports Natural Park occupies a vast area across three municipalities: Aragon, Valencia, and Catalonia. The most picturesque spot in this park is rightfully considered the Estrets d’Arnes. This 450-hectare area features forest labyrinths, diverse vegetation, and cliffs. The route along the Estrets d’Arnes follows the Estrets River. Along the river, you can encounter climbers on the steep cliffs practicing rock climbing. The unique landscapes and towering cliffs provide all the conditions for this.
If you’re looking for something more secluded, then the Barnc de Llorret trail is for you. Here you can visit farms where bulls are raised. Some even have small bullrings. This trail also leads to a cave with stalactites. However, you’ll need good footwear, as the path will lead along narrow paths with steep inclines and drop-offs. One path will take you to the Cova Pintada cave, and the other will take you to a special place called Racó del Moro, home to a pool of icy water.
The Barnc de Llorret trail is unique in its remoteness. You won’t be able to take a photo or call a friend here, because there’s simply no signal. You should also walk carefully, as bulls are grazing almost everywhere. There are even special signs warning, “Beware of wild bulls.” Therefore, it is worth being prepared for a possible sudden encounter with a wild animal and knowing how to behave during such an encounter.
