Golden Sands is entirely oriented toward tourists. It lacks industry and boasts numerous hotels, a water park, healing springs and wellness centers, terrain paths, a diverse nightlife, and pristine beaches.
Golden Sands Beaches
The beach stretches the entire length of the resort, reaching 100 meters in width in places. The sea is shallow near the shore, with fine-grained sand on the shore. The seabed is clean, but the entry into the water is not as shallow as, for example, in Sunny Beach. The infrastructure is well-developed, including cafes, children’s playgrounds, water sports, and sports grounds. The sand on the beach is regularly cleaned.
Practically the entire beach is shared between frontline hotels. For their guests, beach access is often included in the price of their stay.
Shopping and Souvenirs
Shopping in Golden Sands is not worth the time or money. Tourists can expect a standard selection of souvenirs from China and, for variety, Bulgarian-style handicrafts. Unlike similar shops in Varna, prices here are at least two to three times higher.
What to try
The “Shopska” salad will determine the hospitality of a traditional Bulgarian restaurant. If the salad looks too overwhelming, you can order other dishes. For the first course, be sure to try the “shkembe chorba” soup made from stomach, yogurt, paprika, and olive oil. Meat lovers should try “gyuvech,” “kyufte,” “drob po-selski,” “sach,” and “kebapcheta.”
Entertainment and Attractions
Golden Sands has few attractions, only the ancient monastery and the natural beauty.
The Aladzha Rock Monastery is a beautiful structure, carved into the sheer cliff many centuries ago by Christian hermits. Monks lived in the local catacombs for many centuries until they were plundered by the Ottoman Turks.
A major asset of the resort is the picturesque forests in the national park. Local authorities have created several hiking trails of varying difficulty, complete with rest areas, observation platforms, and drinking fountains, especially for tourists.
