Gran Canaria boasts a well-developed infrastructure in its major tourist centers, offering numerous hotels, shops, restaurants, bars, and attractions. Many visitors come here in search of a beach holiday and vibrant nightlife. However, the island’s true gem is considered to be its famous Maspalomas Dunes.

Gran Canaria Beaches and Resorts
Gran Canaria’s main beach resorts are concentrated primarily in the southern part of the island. This is due to its more favorable climate, as the southern part of the island is protected from the winds by the mountain range that runs through the center of Gran Canaria. The southern part of the island is ideal for a family vacation, as the sea is always warm, the entry into the water is gentle, and waves are virtually nonexistent due to the lack of wind. One notable beach area in the south of the island is Maspalomas, also known as Costa Canaria.

The beaches in the northern part of the island are less suitable for swimming, but are ideal for surfing and other water sports. Furthermore, many of the northern beaches are protected areas and are considered the most beautiful on the island. These include the beaches of Güi Güi, Faroneque, Guaedra, Puerto de las Nieves, Sardina, Puertillo, and others.

Gran Canaria Attractions and Activities
Gran Canaria’s main attraction is its unique natural environment. One of the must-see places is the Maspalomas Dunes. The origin of these sand dunes remains a mystery – the origin of this vast expanse of white sand is unknown, but scientists speculate that it was carried by winds from the Sahara Desert in Africa. The dunes are renowned for their magnificent sunsets and camel rides.

Another natural attraction on the island is the caldera of the ancient Bandama volcano. Several hiking trails lead to the volcano’s crater, and the Pico de Bandama observation deck offers a magnificent view from above. Near the volcano is a potter’s village where you can stroll through the ancient streets and purchase unique handcrafts.

25 kilometers from Maspalomas is the Crocodile Park, founded by the Balzer family, who initially took in just a few reptiles but later expanded it into a full-fledged park. Today, it is home not only to crocodiles but also pythons, parrots, monkeys, Siberian tigers, and other animals.
