The Grindelwald ski resort is nestled in the shadow of three magnificent peaks: Jungfrau (4,158 m), Minch (4,099 m), and Eiger (3,970 m), and is one of the most famous ski resorts in Switzerland.
The ski area consists of three towns: Grindelwald, Mürren, and Wengen. Grindelwald is the most famous and largest of these. Nature seems to have specially crafted this sanctuary of fairytale landscapes, harmoniously combining steep rocky cliffs, neat small plateaus, and gentle slopes.
There are numerous excellent ski runs around the Grindelwald winter resort. The most interesting and challenging runs, only for experienced skiers, are the Lauberhorn-Renstrecke (4,300 m, vertical drop 1,028 m), as well as the First Peak area (6,000 m, vertical drop 1,118 m). The longest run is from Lauberhorn to Grindelwald. But the most popular run here, a must-do for anyone skiing in Grindelwald, is the train ride to the summit of Kleine Scheidegg, from where you can descend to Wengen, then ascend to Mönnlichen, and then descend to Grindelwald.
Nowhere else in Central Europe are glaciers so accessible to tourists, reaching right down to the valley. Thanks to its glaciers, skiing in Grindelwald is world-famous, and the winter resort is known as “Glacier Village.” The mysterious Blue Ice Grotto and the exotic Glacier Gorge are close to nature. Take the opportunity to experience it.
