Holidays in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is the oldest city in Croatia. Along with Venice and Amsterdam, it is ranked among the top three most beautiful European cities. The sea here, according to the famous traveler Jacques-Yves Cousteau, is “the cleanest of all the Adriatic resorts.”

Beach
Dubrovnik’s most popular beach is Lapad, a large sand and pebble beach with excellent infrastructure. Also popular is the pebble beach Banje, near the Old Town, with its magnificent views of Dubrovnik’s historic center and the island of Lokrum.

Entertainment and Sports
Dubrovnik’s resort life is diverse, hosting annual summer international drama, music, and dance festivals, and boasting a large number of bars, restaurants, cafes, discos, and nightclubs.

Attractions
Dubrovnik is a grandiose fortified city with a fascinating history and a true architectural masterpiece. Founded 14 centuries ago, it has retained its medieval charm to this day. The old part of the town is surrounded by fortified walls. Inside, it forms a coherent complex of residential buildings with galleries on the ground floors, miniature squares with fountains, and narrow cobbled streets.

The most popular historical monuments include the Maritime Museum, the Church of St. Blasius, the oldest synagogue in Europe, the Art Gallery, the Ethnographic Museum, fountains designed by the famous Italian architect Onofrio de la Cavi, the Marin Držić Theater, and the University Center.

Cuisine
The local cuisine is rich in seafood and delicious dishes made with oysters, eels, and lamb. Be sure to try the wines from the Pelješac Peninsula, for which Southern Dalmatia is famous.
