Hong Kong, a Special Administrative Region of China, is located on the Kowloon Peninsula, bordered on three sides by the South China Sea. Its territory comprises Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories, and adjacent islands.
Nearby islands are particularly popular among tourists, including Lantau, home to the bronze Big Buddha and the AsiaWorld Expo exhibition center; Lamma, renowned for its seafood restaurants and car-free environment; and Cheung Chau, with its famous bun festival and the cave where the famous pirate Cheung Po Tsai hid his plundered treasure. And, of course, don’t forget the popular resort of Macau.
Entertainment and Attractions
Hong Kong offers so many diverse places to visit that it’s difficult to choose just a few. A trip typically begins with a visit to the enormous seated Bronze Buddha, considered the largest in the world. Many then head to Repulse Bay, a beautiful crescent-shaped beach adorned with statues of Kwun Yam and Tin Hau, as well as a lifeguard club built in traditional Chinese style.
Some famous landmarks include Hollywood Road and Upper Lescar Row, known for their antique shops and trinket markets, where you can find the most unusual souvenirs and gifts. The city also boasts the picturesque Man Mo Temple, dedicated to Manu, the god of literature, and Mo, the god of war, with its enormous incense coils creating a special atmosphere.
Aberdeen Harbor is also worth a visit, as it is home to many people living on fishing junks. Don’t miss the Avenue of Stars, a kind of walk of fame and a popular tourist destination.
Other attractions include the Wong Tai Sin Temple, the colonial Murray House, the Hong Kong Museum of History, and Victoria Peak, which offers stunning views of the city. For entertainment, visit Disneyland, the aquarium, and the Symphony of Lights laser show, considered the largest in the world and spanning over 40 buildings. The nightlife is also vibrant: the clubs of Lan Kwai Fong and numerous bars and pubs throughout Hong Kong await guests until late at night.
