
Limerick is an Irish city located on the banks of the River Shannon, in a picturesque location. On an island in the very center of the city stands the magnificent King John’s Castle, over 800 years old.

The city center is roughly divided into two parts: the first is characterized by English style, and the second by Georgian architecture.
King John’s Castle and the Cathedral of St. Mary the Virgin are located on King’s Island. The castle’s walls, towers, and defensive fortifications are remarkably well preserved, attracting many tourists.
The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, with the longest spire in Ireland at 94 meters, was built from blue Limerick limestone between 1856 and 1861. Designed by the English architect Philip Charles Hardwick.
The Hunt Museum, housed in the historic 18th-century Custom House building on the banks of the River Shannon, houses a unique collection of treasures. The museum is home to the Hunt family’s personal collection of ancient artifacts, art objects, and antiques. It houses approximately 2,000 items related to Ireland and Ancient Egypt, as well as a bronze horse by Leonardo da Vinci, a sketch for a Picasso painting, an engraving by Paul Gauguin, and other valuable exhibits.
The city is also home to one of Ireland’s most famous sporting venues, Thomond Park.
