Livigno is a relatively young and dynamically developing ski resort in northern Italy. Livigno’s three villages stretch for 8 km along a valley that divides the ski area into two parts: Carosello and Mottolino. They are roughly equal in altitude, but Mottolino has more challenging runs. It is also home to the gigantic Mottolino Fun Mountain snowpark, covering 120,000 square meters.
The resort boasts perfectly smooth, wide runs, mostly red and blue. In the morning, the sun shines on Carosello, and in the afternoon, on Mottolino.
In the summer, the resort is popular among cyclists thanks to its large number of trails and interesting mountain routes. Kitesurfing, windsurfing, and kayaking are available on the mountain lake. Golf, hiking, and horseback riding are also available at the resort.
Livigno still looks like a large village today – cobbled streets, wooden houses, and chalets. It’s full of cafes and restaurants where you can grab a large pizza for a fraction of the price or drink the local Bombardino. And in the over 200 duty-free shops, you can buy cognac, perfume, and cigarettes at low prices.
Overall, the resort has only one drawback: its distance from major transport hubs. The drive from Zurich takes four hours, and from Milan, five.
