Morocco is a tempting country, a captivating oriental beauty that skillfully captivates its visitors. Situated in North Africa, it is full of surprising paradoxes. Splendor and uniqueness draw attention from all sides: to the west, the powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean, to the north, the calm waters of the Mediterranean, and to the south, the breathtaking landscapes of the Sahara. And in the very heart of the country lie colorful cities where the fiery temperament of Africa, ancient Eastern customs, and the modern achievements of the West intertwine.
Entertainment and Attractions
Most travelers arrive in Casablanca to begin their exploration of this country, known as the “city of white houses.” It’s easy to get lost in the narrow streets of the Medina, and in the Habous quarter, you can feel like you’re in the Middle Ages, even though it was built in the 1930s by the French, not the Arabs. In Casablanca, you’ll be impressed by the Mahkama du Pacha Palace and the majestic Hassan II Mosque with its 210-meter minaret. In Rabat, you can admire the Moorish fortress of the Kasbah of the Udayas, the ruins of the Yacoub al-Mansour Mosque, and visit the unfinished Hassan Tower and the white stone Mausoleum of Mohammed V. In the museums of Moroccan art, antiquities, and crafts, you can explore the cultural heritage of different eras.
In Marrakesh, at the heart of Djemaa el-Fna Square, you’ll find fakirs, acrobats, and street performers entertaining tourists at the site of ancient executions. The city also boasts the Koutoubia Mosque, the Bahia Palace, and the medieval El Badi Palace.
Agadir is a resort town, but besides its beautiful beach, it offers many other interesting attractions. The Kasbah fortress, built in the 16th century, rises on a hill. At the Berber Museum, you’ll learn about this ancient people and their culture. In the bird park, you can see various birds and even some animals. El Ahad Market is the largest in the region and the third largest in North Africa.
Outside the cities, there are also many places worth visiting. The Sahara Desert in the southeast of the country captivates with its vast expanses and stunning landscapes. One of the most beautiful places is the medieval settlement of Ait Benhaddou, often chosen by Hollywood directors for their films, as its majestic red walls create a unique atmosphere.
