Guests at the resort have approximately 650 km of pistes suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers. Those seeking a more relaxed skiing experience will find easy routes, while experts and extreme skiers will find challenging slopes with impressive vertical drops.
Resorts
The Portes du Soleil area comprises eight French and six Swiss ski resorts. The French resorts include Avoriaz, Abondance, La Chapelle-d’Abondance, Châtel, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzine, and Saint-Jean-d’Aulp. The Swiss resorts include Morgins, Champoussin, La Crozzette, Champéry, Torgon, and Val d’Ile. Some of these resorts were built near Alpine villages, while others, such as Avoriaz, were specifically built around ski slopes. Although the resorts share similarities due to their shared geography, each has its own distinct characteristics.
For example, Morzine is ideal for experienced and intermediate skiers. Most of the slopes here are quite steep, and extreme sports enthusiasts will surely enjoy the challenging Pointe de Nyon descent. There are few trails for beginners, but neighboring resorts offer more training opportunities.
Les Gets, on the other hand, is perfect for beginner skiers and families with children. Here you can ride a fun train, and many of the slopes start right outside the hotel doors, eliminating the need for ski lifts.
Avoriaz is a treasure trove for snowboarders. It offers snowcross trails and a giant jump with an inflatable airbag for safe landings. Experienced snowboarders will appreciate the variety of routes, but beginners will also find suitable training areas. Professional skiers also come here for the challenging black runs, which are more numerous here than at other resorts in the Portes du Soleil.
Near Avoriaz is the village of Châtel, which attracts tourists with its tranquil atmosphere and lack of crowds even in high season. Furthermore, thermal springs are available here, making for an especially pleasant holiday.
Of the Swiss resorts, Champéry, located near Geneva, is the most famous. It is often chosen for short weekend getaways, especially by the Swiss themselves. On weekdays, the area remains tranquil, even in high season.
Each resort in the Portes du Soleil offers its own unique offerings, allowing tourists to choose the perfect vacation spot—from extreme skiing to a relaxing family weekend.
