Bürgenstock is a forest resort in the center of Switzerland at an altitude of 950 meters above sea level. The town is located on the shore of Lake Lucerne near Zurich, Basel and Bern.
This is a high-quality and expensive resort. World stars and politicians rest here, for example: Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Louis Barthou, the first chancellor of Germany Konrad Adenauer.
The peninsula covered by mountains, where a whole complex of hotels is located, is considered one of the most beautiful places not only in Switzerland, but also in the world.
Entertainment and attractions of Bürgenstock
The main local pleasure is leisurely walks, cycling along the lake and in the high mountains. It is believed that the air here is clean, light and slightly depleted – a universal remedy for insomnia, fatigue and depression.
The funicular in Bürgenshock was opened in 1888 and completely rebuilt in 2002. You can get on the funicular and enjoy the rapidly opening views for 13 francs.
The Hammetschwand lift, which leads to the top of the mountain, built 105 years ago, is still the highest open lift in Europe. The reconstructed elevator lifts passengers to a height of 152 m in less than a minute. There are twelve walking routes on the mountain. From the top you can see the panorama of the Five Lakes and the whole of Central Switzerland.
