Nesebar is one of the main attractions in Bulgaria, renowned for its historical and cultural achievements. Situated on a rocky peninsula, the town is 850 meters long and 300 meters wide.
Entertainment and Attractions in Nesebar
Nesebar can be divided into two parts: the New Town on the mainland, home to comfortable cottages and private hotels, cafes and restaurants, and the Old Town on a small peninsula connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus approximately 400 meters long. The Old Town has a unique atmosphere, created by the remains of medieval churches, the ancient port and fortress walls, and old houses with wooden bay windows and external staircases.
Cobblestone streets and 19th-century wooden buildings lend Nesebar a special charm.
One of the main attractions of Nesebar are its churches, each distinguished by its own unique architecture. The Metropolitan Church (5th century) is considered the oldest church in the town. According to legend, it was built on the ruins of the Temple of Apollo. The three-nave Metropolitan Church of St. Stephen, built in the 9th century, contains 16th-century frescoes, a carved iconostasis, and a bishop’s throne dating back to the Bulgarian Renaissance.
According to international statistics, Nesebar has the highest number of churches per capita not only in Bulgaria but also in the world. By mid-century, there were approximately 80 chapels and churches here, more than half of which remain intact.
Nesebar’s natural attractions include beautiful white cliffs and natural sand dunes, which create a stunning, fairytale-like landscape with heights of 7-8 meters.
