One of Austria’s largest sports regions, Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang, also known as the “Ski Circus,” is located a 20-minute drive from Zell am See.
The ski resorts of Saalbach and the more established Hinterglemm are located just 3 km apart in the deep Saalach River valley. It boasts an incredible variety of ski runs: extreme and practically flat, sunny and shady, smooth and wide.
Skiing in Saalbach-Hinterglemm is popular with those who enjoy a variety of slopes, the opportunity to reach high speeds and avoid long lift queues. Austria’s largest 100-passenger cable car will take you to the summit of the Ostschattberg (2020 m). The main feature of the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski resort is its intersecting pistes of varying difficulty. The large number of interesting slopes allows you to ski all day in the surrounding area without having to use the same lift twice.
The Hinterglemm ski lift base stations are located near the hotels, so you can ski right to your doorstep. It’s best to start skiing on the northern slope of Spielekkogol (1998 m) – there are no black slopes here.
The longest piste in the resort is Schattberg-Ost-Jausen, 7 km long, with an elevation gain of 1020 m.
For those who prefer gentler skiing, there are numerous charming forested slopes.
