Porto is an ancient and quiet city in the north of Portugal. When visiting the country, it is a must-see in your itinerary so as not to miss out on interesting places. Where to go and what to see when you are short on time.
Walk along the Ribeira embankment. This place is very soulful. The streets of the old town lead to the river, where in the evenings musicians play romantic and rhythmic songs. Above the embankment there are colorful houses of different sizes, and on the Ribeira itself there are many cafes.
Try port wine in Villa Nova de Gaia. Here are port cellars and the most famous producers of Portuguese wine: Calem, Taylor, Cruz, Sandeman. On this side of the river there is also a monastery mural of a famous Portuguese artist and a cable car. Port wine tastings are held in Villa Nova, they are not free. The price starts from 8 euros. But in the souvenir shops you can get a free tasting.
Admire the view from the Porto Cathedral. This is the oldest and largest cathedral, which offers an amazing view of the old city. On one side of the cathedral there are steps leading to narrow winding streets and on the other to the Luis Bridge. A great place for an observation deck and just to relax.
Visit a free city tour. The main tourist office and the starting point of free tours are located just opposite the train station. In general, there are many companies in the city that conduct free walking tours. You just need to choose which one suits you best in terms of time and area. Tours are conducted in two languages: English and Spanish.
Look for a rarity at the Feira da Vandoma flea market. Every Saturday until 1 pm near Campanha there is a flea market. Here you can find: souvenirs, clothes, antiques and furniture. There are almost no tourists here, but many locals.
Walk along the Luis I Bridge. According to legend, it was built by Eiffel. But in fact, there is a rather complicated history and in fact, the bridge was built by his student. The Luis I Bridge has two levels, cars drive on the lower one and trains on the upper one. There is also a pedestrian area on the bridge with a great view of the river and the city.
Swim in the ocean. The ocean itself is not visible from the city, there is only the river. But from Porto you can get to the ocean in 20 minutes by tram #1 or bus 500. Locals and tourists love to come here at sunset. It is an indescribable feeling! The powerful ocean embraces the piers and the lighthouse with its waves.
Try green wine. Also, one of the calling cards of Portugal is a young, slightly sparkling wine – Vinho Verde. You should definitely drink a glass.
No matter how many days you spend in Porto, try to enjoy its atmosphere.
