“Between the sky and the Loire” – this is the motto of Orléans, the main city of the French department of the Loire, located in the center of France. This slogan perfectly reflects the character of the city. On the tourist emblem of Orleans, two smoothly curving blue lines symbolize the firmament and the surface of the Loire River, surrounding the silhouettes of historical buildings, drowning in the green of the Orleans forests.

Saint-Croix Cathedral is the main architectural gem of Orléans and its Gothic dominant. The history of the cathedral dates back to the 6th century, although not a single fragment has survived from those times. During the Middle Ages, the temple was repeatedly rebuilt, destroyed and rebuilt. It acquired its modern form only at the beginning of the 19th century, being dedicated to Joan of Arc.

Every year from April 29 to May 8, as part of the St. John’s festivities, a grandiose light-music show is staged on the facade of the cathedral, the culmination of which usually falls on the evening of May 7.

The house of Joan of Arc, distinguished by its half-timbered walls with wooden beams, was her temporary refuge during the liberation of Orleans. Now art exhibitions are organized on the first floor of the house, and the upper floors are devoted to the life of the national heroine.
