Entertainment and Attractions
The historic center of Chambéry boasts numerous preserved streets and alleys, among which the rue Basse de Château, dating back to the 13th century, stands out.

Particularly noteworthy is the Château des Ducs de Savoy, a monumental complex that has been rebuilt several times over the centuries. Its architecture combines medieval turrets, passages, and cozy courtyards. It is also home to the largest bell complex in France, containing 70 bells of varying sizes and tones. Every month, on the first and third Saturdays, the castle hosts unique bell concerts, beginning at 5:30 PM.

The Théâtre Charles Duland, designed in an elegant Italian style, has earned the nickname “a miniature La Scala.” One of its main features is the painted curtain depicting the “Descent of Orpheus into Hell,” created by master Luigi Vacca.

The Cathedral of Saint-François-de-Sales, built in the 15th century by Franciscan monks, is a true treasure trove. Among its relics are a magnificent ivory diptych, medieval frescoes, and an impressive organ. From July to September, the cathedral hosts organ concerts every Sunday at 5:30 PM.

The Place de la Palais de Justice enchants with its Italian flair and is a wonderful place to relax. A colorful market also takes place here on Saturdays. Be sure to see the city’s most recognizable symbol, the Fountain of the Elephants. This architectural structure, with its arches and protruding elephant sculptures, attracts tourists with its unusual design.

Other highlights of Chambéry include the 17th-century Baroque Church of Notre-Dame, as well as three interesting museums: the house of Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Charmette, the Savoy Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts.
